Zingy Plum Dressing- wholefood, plant based.
One of the secrets of adhering to healthy clean eating, in whole food plant based lifestyle is to find the right sauces, dressing and dips to pair with most recipes. When plums are in season, and you have a stash of over ripe ones that are not crunchy to eat, let this dressing be made in under 20 min. You will relish it as a condiment on many snacks, salads and even roasted veggies.
Plums are rich in carbohydrates, Vitamin C and even potassium. Nature’s sugars are the best way to satisfy sweet tooth. This dressing brings in the best of fruit sweetness from plums, earthy sweetness from dates with the spice from chili pepper. Add a slight citrus note with orange and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Final flavor of the dressing is almost relatedly a mix of Indian date-tamarind chutney and Asian sweet chili sauce. Have it in the fridge to add color, zingy flavor to your next snack or salad.
Zingy Plum dressing

Ingredients
- 4 red plums, sliced
- 8 dates, pitted
- 1 small orange or mandarin peeled
- 1 ripe hot chili pepper (can be any variety) or use 2 dry red chilis
- 1 cup water
- 2 Tbsp apple cider or white vinegar
- 1 Tbsp Maple syrup optional
- pinch of salt optional
Instructions
- In a heavy bottom sauce pan, add the plums, dates, water , chili(s) and peeled orange (with less of the white skin ). On medium heat, let the contents cook for about 15 min, until plums, dates are mushy. If the sweetness is too earthy for you, try adding a bit of maple syrup. Then add the contents of the pan to the blender. At this stage add the vinegar, and salt if desired. Blitz into a smooth paste. Take the vibrant zingy dressing into a clean dry jar. Use an air tight lid and save in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. You can use this dressing to pair with crunchy salads, savory fritters, samosas and even dumplings.
